3rd Grade classes did a fabulous job on their patriotic performance! We honored those who have served and had a great evening of performing! I am so proud of all the hard work these students put into their program, if you missed the evening performance below are the videos of each. Thank you also to everyone who came out Thursday evening to support their student and the music program!
The 3rd grade classes are beginning to prepare and rehearse for their patriotic music program this year! The performance will be on November 15th! Program A will begin a 6:00 PM and Program B will begin at 6:30 PM. We ask that you get your student to the back cafeteria 15 minutes before their program begins.
Program A (6:00PM): Fitzpatrick, Strickland, Bearden Program B (6:30PM): Mayberry, Joslin, Houston The music program will be our patriotic program; celebrating America and remembering our veterans. Students are asked to wear a red shirt (Fitzpatrick and Mayberry), a white shirt (Strickland and Joslin), or a blue shirt (Bearden and Houston). Feel free to contact me by email ([email protected]) with any questions! Please be sure you signed the form that was sent home, knowing which students are available helps determine speaking parts, instruments parts, and more.
Students review how to play and hold barred instruments (xylophones and glockenspiels). We add our own melody to the tongue twister "Fuzzy Wuzzy!" Ms. Strickland and Ms. Mayberry's class did a great job!
Coming back to school also meant reviewing the rules for music class! The most important one is the "Golden Rule" or treat others how you would like to be treated. After discussing our rules we learned to play the melody of our song "Golden Rule" on the glockenspiels! Ms. Fitzpatrick's class did a great job! Welcome to the school year of 2018-2019! I'm excited to see what our wonderful 3rd grade can accomplish in music this year! A round is a song where two or more groups sing/do the same thing, but start at different times! The round "That's the Way to the Zoo" has both words and movement and is fun to perform as a round! See Mrs. Mayberry's class below! The next week we learned a new note "fa" and learned a round with it! It's "called Do, Re, Mi, Fa" can you hear the two groups singing in Mrs. Nolan's class! I thought they did a great job! 3rd Grade students started out the month of March learning the song "Captain Don't Sidetrack Your Train." It's a fun song to sing and has lots of instrument parts and a moving train to accompany it! Below is Mrs. Mayberry's class showing how it's done! 3rd grade students have been learning about rounds! Which is a type of song where two or more groups do the same thing but start at different times. We put our knowledge into practice by performing "Sausage in the Pan." You can hear the two parts played by two different instruments - rhythm sticks and hand drums. Mrs. Bearden's class is seen below performing. Students also wrote their own composition in class using their own lyrics. They had to make sure their rhythms matched their words to create a piece, below are some of my favorites from each class. January seemed very short! One of the things 3rd grade classes learned was a song called “Three Little Monkeys.” They sang and read rhythms as part of the song. Then, we added instrument parts to our song! Below is a video with excerpts from Ms. Nolan’s, Mrs. Mayberry’s and Mrs. Strickland, they all did a great job! Students learn to improvise in their song "Old Joe Clark" where we go "'round and 'round" the circle for each student to have a chance to come up with their own four beat pattern! Some of them got very creative, but you always have to stay on your toes! In honor of the chilly weather we've been having 3rd grade classes learned the song "Dancing Snowflakes." This piece has a lot of different instrument parts that the students had to learn, they did a great job knowing their parts, singing, and playing well!
