I'm so proud of all the hard work the 2nd grade students put in to their program! They did an awesome job on Tuesday putting on a great show!! There were also some AMAZING snowmen costumes! Thank you to everyone who came to watch and especially thank you to those that donated to the music program! Below are the videos of the evening performance in case you missed it! Program A: Neese, Gilson, Parks, Program B: Spears, Reaves, Berry
THE FIRST SNOWBALL It’s the first snowball of the season The first snowball of the year And me and the kids in the neighborhood Packed and pounded and rounded it good, And we rolled it over to Main Street With people popping their lids! At the FIRST SNOW BALL of the season when we were kids! THE FIRST SNOWBALL FROSTY THE SNOWMAN Frosty the Snowman was a jolly, happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale, they say; He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found. For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around. Oh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could be. And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me. Thumpity thump thump, thumpity thump thump, Look at Frosty go! Thumpity thump thump, thumpity thump thump, Over the hills of snow! (repeat from beginning) WINTER WALTZ PERFECT WINTER DAY Rock'n Roll Snowman The 2nd grade classes are beginning to prepare and rehearse for their winter music program this year! The performance will be on December 18th! Program A will begin a 6:00 PM and Program B will begin at 6:30 PM. We ask that you get your student to the back cafeteria 10-15 minutes before their program begins.
Program A (6:00PM): Neese, Gilson, Parks Program B (6:30PM): Spears, Reaves, Berry The music program will be our winter program so we are asking students to be snowmen! See below for costume Here are some examples of snowman costume ideas. The following links are tutorials for some of the pictures. https://30minutecrafts.com/2015/09/no-sew-snowman-costume.html https://sugarbeecrafts.com/pillowcase-snowman-dress http://www.coles-corner-and-creations.com/2011/12/north-pole-neighbors-snowmen.html 2nd grade students have been working on mallet technique and performing two parts at the same time! In the poem "2, 4, 6, 8" one half of the class plays the xylophones (wood barred instruments), and the other have plays a repeated pattern "Late, Don't be Late" played on the glockenspiels and metallophones (metal barred instruments). Mrs. Spears and Mrs. Berry's classes did a great job performing two parts at the same time which is a big challenge!
Students also practiced keeping the beat to our song "Down in the Valley" by bouncing tennis balls! We made it into a game, if you dropped or missed your tennis ball you have to sit down, whoever is still standing at the end of the song wins! Mrs. Spears class has some great bouncers! 2nd Grade students learned a song using the notes So, La and Mi called traffic lights! The song sang about what each light means in a traffic light. We then played a game where we played and moved fast of slow based on what light is pointed to! In music the word a word for fast is presto and a word for slow is largo. Ms. Gilson's class did a good job of watching and moving! Welcome to the school year of 2018-2019! I'm excited to see what our wonderful 2nd grade can accomplish in music this year! 2nd grad students have been busy this April! First they used a mouse to sing a song called, "Mouse, Mousey." We added lots of different instrument parts to the song and performed each of them. Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Reaves' classes did a great job learning their parts and performing!
Classes learned an Irish dance that uses sticks in honor of March! Below Mrs. Park's and Mrs. Reaves' (2) class show us how it is performed.
2nd grade students learned what the notes do, re and mi looked like on a staff. We practiced writing melodies that we heard on our staffs and then student were given a chance to write their own do-re-mi four note song! Here’s what some looked like! |
